June 11th Fair Offers Extravaganza of Credit Resources

by UNHP

On Wednesday, June 11, University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP), a non-profit with over 30 years of experience, will sponsor a Credit Extravaganza at the Northwest Bronx Resource Center located at 2715 Bainbridge Avenue Bronx, NY from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. The Credit Resource Fair will help attendees review their credit and meet with advisors about ways to stretch their incomes, and create better spending habits.

Event attendees will be able to get a free credit report and analysis and information about secured credit cards, low cost banking accounts and products, first-time homebuyer counseling, low-cost health insurance, home foreclosure prevention, and free financial education services.

Managing credit is essential for personal financial stability. The right amount of low-interest credit can help you finance large household expenses, get an apartment, and lower interest rates on a mortgage or car loan. Outstanding credit can prevent you from getting a job, get you harassed by debt collectors and even get your wages or social security garnished.

The Credit Extravaganza is an event that builds upon UNHP’s financial education work and provides on-the-spot financial resources to attendees. In 2014, UNHP helped over 1,400 Bronx residents file their taxes for free, get free financial education assistance, foreclosure prevention services and information on buying a home for the first time. Jumelia Abrahamson, The Director of the Resource Center says “Credit can be your ally and help you reach your financial goals. I’d like to see people leave this Fair with their credit reports and a full understanding of how they can use credit responsibly for their benefit.”

In addition to UNHP’s financial education staff, representatives from The Financial Clinicthe Parodneck FoundationSeedco, and Apple Bank will be available to answer questions and provide information on credit, free financial education services and low-cost products.

The Credit Extravaganza and all the services are free, but space is limited. Please call UNHP at (718) 933-2539 to reserve a spot or visit www.unhp.org. Services available to Spanish speakers.
