UNHP 2014 Bronx Beer Hall Fundraiser
2013 marked UNHP’s 30th anniversary and this year the celebration continues at a different venue, the Bronx Beer Hall! Join us on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Bronx Beer Hall in the Arthur Avenue Retail Market for an evening of good company, Bronx craft beers and a mix of pub and classic Italian fare created by David Greco of Mike’s Deli fame. Attendees will get a UNHP Bronx Beer Hall pint glass, one free beer, and delicious food.
Thank You to our 2014 Sponsors
The support of our sponsors helps UNHP make strides towards our mission to create and preserve affordable housing and bring needed resources to the northwest Bronx.
Tickets are available at $50 at the corporate rate and $30 for individuals and non-profits. You can buy tickets on our donate page, by mailing a check or emailing your reservation with this form and paying at the door by cash, check or credit card.
We have much to celebrate this year and hope that you will join us to raise a glass – our specially imprinted UNHP beer glass – to our many recent accomplishments. UNHP has aided in the improvement of tens of thousands of rental units in New York City through the use of the Building Indicator Project (BIP). With our partner, Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation, UNHP went to permanent closing on West Farms Square, a transformed 8 building, 526 unit affordable housing project. In addition to our housing work, UNHP has assisted over 4,000 Bronx residents through the Northwest Bronx Resource Center at Refuge House with a variety of financial education services, including a free tax preparation program which has helped keep over $7.5 million in Bronx pockets. We have also hosted events like our credit extravaganza, where 55 Bronx residents received help with their credit reports and 25 scheduled follow-up 1-on-1 appointments with a financial counselor.
About the Venue
The Bronx Beer Hall opened last year as both a business and as a way for the two young Bronx owners of Mainland Media, along with Chef David Greco, to share all the positive traditions, delicious food and their pride in the Bronx with a wider audience.
The Arthur Avenue Retail Market was created in 1940 as part of Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s plan to get pushcarts off NYC streets and had 117 stalls for vendors and merchants. Over a dozen merchants currently reside in the market including the Bronx Beer Hall, Peter’s Meat Market and Mike’s Deli, a two-generation family-owned business which sells the finest quality homemade antipasti, breads, meats, pasta, and imported cheeses. The Market, which is one of the few remaining indoor markets in the country, is visited by locals as well as people from throughout the tri-state area, and even from as far away as Europe, who come to buy products and experience an “old-world” ambiance. You can read more about the Bronx Beer Hall’s opening & success in a New York Times article, found here.
