A Successful 30th Celebration for UNHP!
What a great and fitting 30th Anniversary we had on Thursday, October 3rd at the historic landmark Dollar Savings Bank building on the Grand Concourse. Special thanks to our friends at Apple Bank for their generosity and allowing us to use their branch space for our party, especially Apple VP Richard O’Brien and Branch Manager Diahna Rivera.
Not only was the art deco style branch beautiful, it also reflected UNHP’s reinvestment roots. In the mid-1970’s the Northwest Bronx Reinvestment Committee worked to gain commitments from Bronx banks to reinvest in the northwest Bronx, and many of those meetings were held at Dollar Saving Bank.
30 years later and UNHP is still here working to insure private and public investment that works for our neighborhoods. Our most recent accomplishments in this area are the involvement of over 20 financial institutions at our Multifamily Assistance Center roundtable meetings, and the coming together of the four bank regulators to discuss the use of the BIP and like tools to assess the quality of investment in low-income neighborhoods like the NWBronx.
Our celebration was a fun filled event, complete with music, Bronx craft beer, Caribbean food, a pastillito cart and our complimentary souvenir pint glasses. Throughout the event, we sold raffle tickets for our five raffle baskets which included great prizes, such as tickets for the New York Yankees and gear from local colleges. Thank you to our raffle donors, Salsa Caterers, Bronx Ale House and others who were involved in making this event a success.
UNHP raised nearly $60,000 towards our continued and renewed efforts to create and preserve affordable housing and bring needed resources to the northwest Bronx.
