Quarterly BIP Reports
The core of UNHP’s Building Indicator Project is the release of quarterly data on all multifamily housing in New York City, which currently stands at over 70,000 individual tax lots. These data releases are snapshots at a given point in time, and give our subscribers a baseline understanding of the physical and financial state of individual buildings and the multifamily universe as a whole.
The data are sent as an Excel spreadsheet, and depending on the end-user, includes either the database in its entirety, or data on a given lender portfolio. The data in our quarterly reports includes:
• Building characteristics and geography,
• Rent-regulation status, tax abatement, participation in other city and state programs,
• Violation data from Department of Buildings and Housing Preservation & Development,
• Overdue financial charge data, from the Department of Finance,
• The most recent lender on the property (if they exist), identified in the Umbrella column,
• Current and historical BIP scores,
• Ownership & management information, according to HPD’s registration data.
A full data dictionary can be found by downloading the Example Spreadsheet. A presentation with a full overview of the BIP database can be downloaded here.
