#ViewsNWBX is comprised of ten on-line essays as well as introductory, summary and community feedback blog posts. UNHP has broken the blog series up into the four main themes covered in the series. Selected posts, to the right, from the Views from the Northwest Bronx blog series focus on the need for more community-based development and meaningful resident input.
Community is the Operative Word in ‘Community Development’ discusses the history and future of community development groups in the Bronx. Nothing About Us, Without Is, is For Us, by Sheila Garcia of CASA, looks at the Jerome Ave rezoning and proposes ways in which the community could be better incorporated into rezoning decisions. Understanding the Unique Needs of a Community by Judi Kende, of Enterprise Community Partners, focuses on the lasting benefits that community-based organizations bring to the community development table.
Community Based Organizations (CBOs) are uniquely positioned to understand and advocate for the needs and priorities of a community and to help give residents a voice. They can conduct research and disseminate the results, serve as a convener, and organize advocacy efforts.
